& Location, Portland Bill
BY ROAD:
Follow the signs to Portland
from Weymouth (A354) and you will cross the 'causeway' with
Chesil Beach on your right. When reaching the end
of the causeway follow the signs to Portland Bill.
There are three lighthouses at Portland Bill so we
recommend you follow these directions. You should
take the road to the left of the Eight Kings pub and
around a mile from there you will pass a white lighthouse
which is the old Lower Lighthouse, now a bird observatory.
Slow down at this point. A short distance past the
Lower Light you will see the word SLOW on the road
as it inclines slightly. Just after this the road
takes a sharp bend to the left. You should take the
road to the right that is on the bend, but beware
of traffic coming from your left. Turn right again
up the drive marked 'Private' and sign posted to the
Coast Watch Station. Proceed up the hill taking the
right-hand fork at the top onto the un-made track and Old Higher Lighthouse
drive.
